Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD25 (Interleukin-2 receptor alpha chain), a 55 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on activated B and T lymphocytes, activated monocytes/macrophages, and on CD4+ T lymphocytes (T regulatory cells). Expression is lost on resting B and T lymphocytes.

Target Information

CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain, IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor component involved in T and B lymphocyte proliferation. The IL2 receptor is a heterotrimeric complex composed of IL2RA, IL2RB, and IL2RG subunits.

  • Homodimeric IL2RA chains form low-affinity receptors.
  • Homodimeric IL2RB chains form medium-affinity receptors.
  • The trimeric IL2RA/IL2RB/IL2RG complex forms a high-affinity receptor.

IL2 is primarily produced by mature T cells and functions as a growth factor, differentiation factor, and regulator of cell death. It stimulates B cell proliferation, enhances NK cell activity, and inhibits granulocyte-macrophage colony formation.
Disruption of the IL2RA gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its role in immune regulation. Mutations in this gene are associated with interleukin-2 receptor alpha deficiency.
