Target Information

Somatostatin is produced in 14 aa and 28 aa active forms through alternate cleavage of a single preproprotein. It is expressed throughout the body and inhibits the release of numerous secondary hormones via high-affinity G-protein-coupled somatostatin receptors.
This hormone regulates the endocrine system by interacting with pituitary growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, and gastrointestinal hormones. It also influences neurotransmission and cell proliferation in both normal and tumorigenic cells.
