Target Information

The LIM homeobox transcription factor 1 (LMX1A) belongs to the LIM-homeodomain family, important for pattern formation during development. LMX1A binds an A/T-rich sequence and acts as a transcriptional activator of the insulin gene promoter.
During embryonic development, it is expressed along the neuraxis and contributes to roof plate formation in vertebrae. LMX1A is crucial for dopamine neuron differentiation, while LMX1B supports their development and survival. LMX1A may serve as a biomarker or risk factor in tumor aggressiveness.
