Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with native Cytochrome C but does not recognize denatured Cytochrome C.
It recognizes a region in the vicinity of amino acid 62 of rat Cytochrome C.
Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron-transporting protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, essential for oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production.
Upon apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor and activates procaspase 9.
Cytosolic cytochrome C subsequently activates caspase 3, a key effector in apoptosis.
