Reconstitute 40 µg lyophilized powder with 80 µL of deionized water (or equivalent) to obtain an antibody concentration of 0.5 mg/mL.

A number of mutations identified in the gene encoding the β-amyloid precursor protein (βAPP) have been linked to early-onset Familial Alzheimer’s Disease. βAPP is cleaved sequentially by β-secretase and γ-secretase to produce β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides, primarily Aβ1-42(43) and Aβ1-40. Secreted Aβ peptides can bind to scavenger receptors and receptors for advanced glycation end products. Aβ peptides are degraded via reuptake and endosomal degradation or by extracellular insulin-degrading enzyme. Extracellular accumulation of Aβ leads to aggregates, fibrils, and amyloid deposits (neuritic plaques), a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.

This β-amyloid antibody (clone 2C2G5) is produced from the hybridoma formed by fusion of Sp2/0 myeloma and B-lymphocytes obtained from mice immunized with a synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 36–42 of human β-Amyloid conjugated to KLH (Swiss Prot: P05067).

Target Information

Beta amyloid is a 40–43 amino acid peptide cleaved from amyloid precursor protein by gamma-secretase. Beta Amyloid (1–40) and Beta Amyloid (1–42) are the two major C-terminal variants constituting most amyloid beta proteins. Both forms are major components of extracellular plaques found in Alzheimer’s disease brain tissue.
