Target Information

Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells respond to thermal and chemical stress by inducing heat shock genes. In eukaryotes, transcription of these genes is regulated mainly by Heat Shock Transcription Factors (HSF1 and HSF2).
HSF1 and HSF2 are upregulated by estrogen at both mRNA and protein levels. HSF1 is normally a monomer repressed by phosphorylation; upon activation, it forms trimers, gains DNA-binding activity, and translocates to the nucleus.
HSF2 activity is associated with differentiation and development and also binds DNA as a trimer. Both HSF1 and HSF2 are induced by proteasome inhibitors of the ubiquitin pathway.
