Target Information
Activin A receptor kinase (ACVR2A) is a type II receptor of the TGF-beta family of Serine/Threonine kinases. It participates in activin and myostatin signaling pathways.
Aliases: ACVR2, ACTRII
These receptors are transmembrane proteins composed of:
- A ligand-binding extracellular domain with a cysteine-rich region
- A transmembrane domain
- A cytoplasmic domain with serine/threonine specificity
Type I receptors are essential for signaling, while type II receptors are required for ligand binding and Type I receptor expression. Upon ligand binding, Type I and II receptors form a stable complex, resulting in phosphorylation of Type I receptors by Type II receptors. Type II receptors are constitutively active kinases.
