Target Information

Activin A receptor kinase (ACVR2A) is a type II receptor of the TGF-beta family of receptor Serine/Threonine kinases.
It plays a key role in activin and myostatin signaling pathways.
ACVR2A (aliases: ACVR2, ACTRII) is a transmembrane protein composed of:

• Ligand-binding extracellular domain with cysteine-rich region
• Transmembrane domain
• Cytoplasmic domain with serine/threonine kinase activity

Type I receptors are essential for signaling, while type II receptors are required for ligand binding and type I receptor expression.
Upon ligand binding, type I and II receptors form a stable complex, leading to phosphorylation of type I receptors by type II receptors.
Type II receptors are considered constitutively active kinases.
