Target Information
MAP3K5 (ASK1) is a serine/threonine kinase abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas. It is activated in response to extracellular stimuli such as cytokines, growth factors, and environmental stresses.
ASK1 (Apoptosis Signal-Regulating Kinase 1), also known as MAPKKK5, activates MAP kinase kinases MKK4 and MKK6, which subsequently activate JNK and p38 MAP kinases.
ASK1 is activated by TNFR and Fas through interaction with TRAF family members and Daxx protein. Overexpression of ASK1 induces apoptotic cell death, while catalytically inactive ASK1 inhibits TNF-α-induced apoptosis.
ASK1 is expressed in various human and mouse tissues.
