Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes.
ABC genes are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This transporter is part of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance and functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter. Substrates include oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1, as well as glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts.
Alternative splicing results in several variants, all maintaining the original open reading frame.
