Product Specific Information
Specificity: V14/2 antibody has been demonstrated to exclusively recognize CCR5 (CD195) phosphorylated at Ser337.
Target Information
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related viruses require coreceptors, in addition to CD4, to infect target cells. Several G protein-coupled receptors including CCR5, CXCR4, CCR3, CCR2b, and CCR8 belong to the chemokine receptor family and act as HIV coreceptors.
CCR5 (CC-CKR-5) is a principal coreceptor for macrophage- and dual-tropic HIV-1 strains, mediating fusion and entry into human white blood cells. It is essential for infection by HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV.
Beta-chemokines such as RANTES, MIP-alpha, and MIP-beta are ligands for CCR5 and can prevent M-tropic HIV-1 infection. CCR5 interacts with the CD4-gp120 complex on the HIV surface, facilitating membrane fusion and viral entry.
CCR5 mRNA is expressed in lymphoid organs and monocytes.
