Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes non-activated, nonphospho-CCR5. CCR5 is a receptor for several inflammatory CC-chemokines including CCL3 (MIP-1-alpha), CCL4 (MIP-1-beta), and RANTES.

Target Information

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related viruses require coreceptors, in addition to CD4, to infect target cells. CCR5, a member of the chemokine receptor family, acts as a principal coreceptor for macrophage- and dual-tropic HIV-1 strains, enabling fusion and entry into human white blood cells. CCR5 is essential for infection by HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV. Its ligands—RANTES, MIP-alpha, and MIP-beta—can block M-tropic HIV-1 infection. CCR5 interacts with the CD4-gp120 complex of HIV, facilitating membrane fusion and viral entry. The amino-terminal domain and extracellular loops serve as HIV binding sites. CCR5 mRNA is expressed in lymphoid organs and monocytes.
