Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes non-activated, nonphospho-CCR5.
CCR5 is a receptor for several inflammatory CC-chemokines including CCL3 (MIP-1-alpha), CCL4 (MIP-1-beta), and RANTES.

Target Information

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related viruses require coreceptors, in addition to CD4, to infect target cells.
Among these, CCR5 (CC-CKR-5) functions as a principal coreceptor for macrophage- and dual-tropic HIV-1 strains, facilitating fusion and entry into human white blood cells.
CCR5 is essential for infection by HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV.
The beta-chemokines RANTES, MIP-alpha, and MIP-beta serve as ligands for CCR5 and can prevent infection by M-tropic HIV-1.
CCR5 associates with the surface CD4-gp120 of the HIV complex, leading to membrane fusion and viral entry.
The amino-terminal domain and extracellular loops of CCR5 act as HIV binding sites.
CCR5 mRNA is expressed in lymphoid organs and monocytes.
