Product Specific Information

  • 100% identical in rat and mouse.
  • 1 µg/mL of MA5-45635 detects GFAP R416WT in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
  • Detects approximately 50 kDa.
  • Does not cross-react with GFAP-R416W or other proteins (based on KO validation).
  • Formerly sold as clone S206B-9.

Target Information

GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein) is a class III intermediate filament protein, specifically expressed in astrocytes and certain astroglia of the CNS, satellite cells, and non-myelinating Schwann cells. It serves as a marker for astrocytic cells and is expressed in various brain tumors derived from astrocytes. GFAP is also found in lens epithelium, Kupffer cells, and some salivary tumor cells. Mutations in GFAP cause Alexander disease, a rare astrocytic disorder. Alternative splicing produces multiple isoforms.
