Product Specific Information
- 100% identical in rat and mouse.
- 1 µg/mL of MA5-45636 was sufficient for detection of GFAP R416WT in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
- Detects approximately 50 kDa.
- Does not cross-react with GFAP-R416W or other proteins (based on KO validation results).
- This antibody was formerly sold as clone S206B-9.
Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein) is a class III intermediate filament protein expressed in astrocytes and certain astroglia of the central nervous system, satellite cells of peripheral ganglia, and non-myelinating Schwann cells. It is also found in neural stem cells, lens epithelium, Kupffer cells, and some salivary tumor cells. GFAP serves as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in GFAP cause Alexander disease, a rare astrocytic disorder. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
