Target Information
Human Rad18 (hRad18) is a homolog of S. pombe Rad18. In yeast, Rad6 and Rad18 play crucial roles in post-replication repair by filling gaps in daughter strands during replication of damaged DNA. The Rad6–Rad18 complex is essential for lesion bypass, binding to damaged sites through Rad18’s single-stranded DNA binding property. Human Rad18 maps to chromosome 3p24–25, a region frequently deleted in several cancers. It encodes a 495-amino-acid protein (56 kDa) expressed ubiquitously in human tissues.
