Target Information

PCNA (polymerase delta auxiliary protein) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and tumor prognosis, being expressed in early G1 and S phases.
Located in the nucleus, PCNA acts as a homotrimer and cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, enhancing leading strand synthesis.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in RAD6-dependent DNA repair.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein exist, with pseudogenes on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
