Target Information

Histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) catalyzes the deacetylation of lysine residues on histones H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
This deacetylation contributes to epigenetic repression and plays a critical role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and development.
HDAC4 functions within multiprotein complexes and participates in muscle maturation via interactions with MEF2A, MEF2C, and MEF2D.
It also contributes to MTA1-mediated epigenetic regulation of ESR1 expression in breast cancer.
Mutations in the HDAC4 gene are associated with Brachydactyly-mental retardation syndrome (BDMR).
