Antibody detects endogenous levels of AMPK beta 1 only when phosphorylated at Ser181.
Target Information
AMPK beta 1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits.
It acts as an energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. Under metabolic stress, AMPK is activated and phosphorylates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), which are involved in fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta 1 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity, and its myristoylation and phosphorylation influence enzyme activity and localization. It may also serve as an adaptor molecule for AMPK complex assembly.
