Target Information

CXCR5 (C-X-C Chemokine Receptor Type 5, CD185), also known as Burkitt lymphoma receptor 1 (BLR1), belongs to the CXC chemokine receptor family. It is a G protein-coupled seven-transmembrane receptor for chemokine BLC and is specifically expressed in Burkitt’s lymphoma and lymphatic tissues such as lymph node follicles and spleen.

CXCR5 plays an essential role in B cell migration and has been reported in various human and animal tissues including blood, salivary gland, lymphatic organs, bone marrow, brain, liver, skin, spleen, stomach, and tonsil. ESTs have been isolated from human brain, germ cell, lung, lymph, and pancreas.

G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) are one of the largest families of signaling molecules, sharing a common seven-transmembrane structure. GPCRs exist in active and inactive forms and are regulated by various ligands and downstream effectors. The regulation of GPCR activity has significant implications in pharmacological research, leading to the development of major GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough).
