Target Information
VE-cadherin is a member of the cadherin superfamily located in a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16. It is involved in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. VE-cadherin is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It functions as a classic cadherin, promoting homophilic cell adhesion and playing an important role in endothelial cell biology through control of intercellular junction organization. An alternative splice variant has been described, though its full-length sequence is not determined.
