Product Specific Information

The HMα2 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD49b, the 150 kDa integrin alpha2 subunit. CD49b forms a non-covalent complex with integrin beta1 (CD29), known as VLA-2, a receptor for collagen and laminin. This complex is expressed by some CD4⁺ T cells, intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL), NK cells, platelets, and epithelial cells.

  • Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
  • Applications Tested: Flow cytometric analysis of mouse splenocytes
    • Recommended use ≤ 0.25 µg per test
    • Defined as the amount of antibody staining a sample in 100 µL final volume
    • Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test
    • Antibody titration recommended for optimal performance

Target Information

CD49b (Integrin alpha 2) is a glycoprotein (~150 kDa) that complexes with CD29 (Integrin beta 1) to form the heterodimeric integrin VLA-2 (α2β1, or GPIa/IIa). VLA-2 acts as an extracellular receptor for laminin, collagen, and fibronectin, triggering intracellular signaling pathways. It plays roles in VEGF-induced angiogenesis, adhesion, and lymphocyte activation.

CD49b is expressed by:

  • NK cells, NK-T cells, monocytes, platelets, epithelial cells
  • Adaptive immune cells such as T and B cells
  • Subsets of CD4⁺ T cells in spleen, intestinal lymphocytes (intraepithelial and lamina propria), and peripheral CD4⁺ Tr1 cells co-expressing LAG-3
