Product Specific Information
- In Western Blot, a band is observed at ~56 kDa representing the ATG5-ATG12 complex. The molecular weight of human ATG5 is ~33 kDa.
- Prior to immunostaining paraffin tissues, antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended.
- Suggested positive control: mouse wildtype ES cell lysate.
Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) plays a key role in autophagy and apoptosis. It participates in mitochondrial quality control, immune response regulation, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation with ATG12, the complex forms the autophagosome isolation membrane. ATG5 interacts with FADD, contributing to autophagic cell death.
ATG5-ATG12 conjugate also modulates innate immune responses by associating with RIG-I and VISA, inhibiting type I interferon production and facilitating viral replication.
Dysfunction of ATG5 is linked to diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
