Product Specific Information
In Western blot, a band is seen in hypoxic samples at approximately 30 and 60 kDa, representing the BNIP3 protein.
There are some non-specific bands present as well.
It is recommended that normoxic samples be run next to hypoxic samples as a negative control.
Target Information
BNIP3 is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa-interacting protein (BNIP) family.
It interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein, which protects against virally induced cell death, as well as E1B 19 kDa-like sequences of BCL2, another apoptotic protector.
BNIP3 contains a BH3 domain and a transmembrane domain associated with pro-apoptotic function.
The dimeric mitochondrial protein is known to induce apoptosis, even in the presence of BCL2.
