Product Specific Information
- In Western Blot, a band is seen at ~56 kDa representing the ATG5–ATG12 complex. The molecular weight of human ATG5 is approximately 33 kDa.
- Prior to immunostaining paraffin tissues, antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended.
- Suggested positive control: mouse wildtype ES cell lysate.
Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key component of the autophagy pathway and plays an essential role in the apoptotic process. It is involved in various cellular processes including mitochondrial quality control, negative regulation of antiviral immune responses, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Following conjugation to ATG12, the ATG5–ATG12 complex participates in autophagosome formation and interacts with FADD to mediate autophagic cell death. It also associates with innate immune response proteins such as RIG-I and VISA, inhibiting type I interferon production and permitting viral replication.
Dysfunction of ATG5 has been linked to diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
