Target Information
MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains to assist in contractile activity (myosin-actin interaction).
MLCK regulates smooth muscle contraction via phosphorylation of myosin light chains (MLC), facilitating myosin–actin interaction.
It plays a key role in vascular permeability and tissue edema formation, and in the nervous system contributes to astrocytic process growth and neurotransmitter release.
MLCK participates in fibroblast apoptosis signaling and is expressed in various adult and fetal tissues.
Non-muscle isoform 2 is the dominant splice variant, while the Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is found in diverse tissues.
MLCK is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation and contains one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
