SOX18 is a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors involved in embryonic development and cell fate determination. It functions as a transcriptional regulator, forming complexes with other proteins. SOX18 plays roles in hair, blood vessel, and lymphatic vessel development. Mutations in this gene are linked to both recessive and dominant forms of hypotrichosis-lymphedema-telangiectasia.
