Mutations in this gene are associated with Nijmegen breakage syndrome, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by increased cancer susceptibility, cell cycle checkpoint defects, and sensitivity to ionizing radiation.
This highlights a molecular connection between double-strand break repair and cell cycle checkpoint control.
