Product Specific Information
For immunostaining, strong ER beta staining in epithelial cell nuclei is observed, with weak to moderate staining in surrounding stromal and endothelial cell nuclei, and sporadic light cytoplasmic staining. This antibody has been reported to detect ERβ in colon and ovarian tumors. Positive control: recombinant fusion protein.
Target Information
Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ, NR3A2) is approximately 55 kDa, with multiple isoforms ranging from 36–59 kDa. Initially cloned from human testis, ERβ belongs to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. It acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds estrogen, undergoes conformational change, dimerizes, and binds to estrogen response elements (ERE) in DNA to regulate gene transcription.
ERβ and ERα are encoded by separate genes (ESR2 and ESR1, respectively) and have similar estrogen binding affinities. Some ERβ isoforms inhibit ERα activity in reproductive tissues. ERβ is widely expressed and functions as a tumor suppressor, implicated in various diseases such as prostate cancer, autism spectrum disorder, medullary thyroid carcinoma, De Quervain disease, and cardiovascular risk.
