Target Information
BMPR1A is a Type I member of the TGF-beta receptor superfamily of transmembrane serine/threonine kinases, which phosphorylate intracellular SMADs in response to bone morphogenic proteins. These receptors are closely related to activin receptors ACVR1 and ACVR2. Ligands of these receptors belong to the TGF-beta superfamily.
TGF-betas and activins signal through heteromeric complexes of two different types of serine/threonine kinase receptors:
- Type I receptors (~50–55 kDa)
- Type II receptors (~70–80 kDa)
Type II receptors can bind ligands independently but require type I receptors for signaling, whereas type I receptors depend on type II receptors for ligand binding.
