Target Information
Aquaporins (AQP0–AQP10) are membrane channel proteins facilitating water transport across cell membranes. While most AQPs are selective for water, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 isoform also permit urea and glycerol passage. AQP2 is vasopressin-regulated and critical for water reabsorption in kidney collecting ducts.
In the lung, AQP5 mediates water transport across the apical membrane of type I alveolar epithelial cells.
Aquaporins contribute to renal water absorption, pulmonary secretion, lacrimation, and cerebrospinal fluid regulation.
