Target Information
Inhibins and activins are involved in regulating various biological processes, including hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development, and bone growth.
Activins oppose the functions of inhibins.
Inhibins are predominantly expressed in liver, uterus, and ovary tissues, as well as in benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Inhibin A (α + βA dimer) and Inhibin B (α + βB dimer) inhibit follicle-stimulating hormone secretion.
Inhibin βC forms a homodimer, mainly expressed in adult liver and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
