Product Specific Information
- 1 µg/mL of MA5-45659 was sufficient for detection of Protocadherin gamma (pan) in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
- Detects approximately 100 kDa.
- Cross-reacts with all Gamma-protocadherin-A, -B, and -C proteins.
- Formerly sold as clone S159-5.
Target Information
The protocadherin gamma gene cluster, located on chromosome 5, is one of three related clusters with an immunoglobulin-like organization. It includes 22 genes divided into three subfamilies:
- Subfamily A: 12 genes
- Subfamily B: 7 genes and 2 pseudogenes
- Subfamily C: 3 genes
Each variable region exon encodes the extracellular region (6 cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane domain), while constant region exons encode the shared cytoplasmic region. These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are critical for specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing has been described for the gamma cluster genes.
