Target Information
Early endosomal antigen 1 (EEA1) is a 162 kDa membrane-bound protein specific to early endosomes and essential for fusion between early endocytic vesicles. These endosomes mediate redistribution of extracellular compounds.
EEA1 contains zinc-finger-like domains in both N- and C-terminal regions, similar to nucleic acid-binding proteins. The C-terminal zinc-finger domain is conserved across various intracellular trafficking proteins and is critical for EEA1 localization.
Membrane association of EEA1 depends on phosphatidyl 3-kinase activity; inhibitors cause dissociation from early endosomes.
