Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the MAP kinase family, which acts as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals. These kinases regulate diverse cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development. JNK1/JNK3 is activated by various stimuli and mediates immediate-early gene expression. It plays a role in TNF-alpha induced apoptosis and UV radiation-induced apoptosis, likely through cytochrome c-mediated pathways. Mouse studies indicate a key role in T cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
