Product Specific Information

Reconstitute the lyophilized powder with deionized water (or equivalent) to an antibody concentration of 0.5 mg/mL.

beta-Tubulin III belongs to the tubulin family, which forms dimers of alpha and beta chains and constitutes the major component of microtubules. Each tubulin molecule binds two moles of GTP — one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha chain. β-Tubulin III has a highly acidic C-terminal region capable of binding cations such as calcium. It is abundant in the central and peripheral nervous systems.

This antibody was developed in rabbit hosts using a KLH-coupled synthetic peptide corresponding to residues 150–200 of human β-Tubulin III protein (Swiss Prot: Q13509).

Target Information

The betaIII-tubulin isoform is predominantly expressed in cells of neuronal origin and serves as one of the earliest markers of neuronal differentiation. It is regarded as a specific probe for neuronal cells and tumors derived from them. Although most abundant in neurons, betaIII-tubulin is also detected in Sertoli cells of the testis and transiently in certain non-neuronal embryonic tissues.
