This antibody detects endogenous levels of p21 Cip1 only when phosphorylated at Threonine 145.
Target Information
Protein p21 is a tumor suppressor and an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), transcriptionally activated by p53.
It plays a key role in cellular response to genotoxic stress and DNA damage repair by blocking cell cycle progression (G1→S or G2→M).
In the cytoplasm, p21 exhibits anti-apoptotic activity by inhibiting caspase 3, ASK1, and JNK.
Thus, p21 has dual roles in carcinogenesis, functioning both as a tumor suppressor and as an oncogene under certain conditions.
