Target Information
PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease of the kallikrein family produced by prostate epithelial cells and is abundant in seminal fluid. It can be detected in the sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma, mainly complexed with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT). The proportion of PSA complexed with ACT is higher in prostate cancer than in benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA is commonly used to confirm prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and to distinguish it from non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
