- A chemoattractant
- A modulator of T cell activation
- An inhibitor of HIV replication
The signaling process is mediated by CD4.
Proteolytic processing yields two functional proteins:
- C-terminal peptide: cytokine function
- N-terminal product: may play a role in cell cycle control
Caspase 3 is involved in the proteolytic processing of IL-16.
