Target Information

IL-15 (Interleukin 15) is a cytokine that regulates T and natural killer cell activation and proliferation. IL-15 and IL-2 share many biological activities as both bind common hematopoietin receptor subunits and may compete for the same receptor, thereby negatively regulating each other’s activity.
IL-15 induces activation of JAK kinases and transcription activators STAT3, STAT5, and STAT6. In mouse studies, IL-15 may increase expression of apoptosis inhibitor Bcl-xL through STAT6 activity, preventing apoptosis.
IL-15 plays a crucial role in the growth and differentiation of T and B lymphocytes, NK cells, macrophages, and monocytes, and is involved in immune responses, allograft rejection, and autoimmune disease pathogenesis.
It is also a pro-inflammatory cytokine implicated in disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and pulmonary inflammation. IL-15 neutralization shows potential therapeutic benefits in models of psoriasis and diabetes.
