Product Specific Information
The antibody detects a 105 kDa protein corresponding to the molecular mass of eEF2K on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of human recombinant eEF2K autophosphorylated in the presence of Ca²⁺ and Calmodulin. This reactivity is removed after lambda phosphatase treatment.
Target Information
EEF2K (eukaryotic elongation factor 2 kinase) is a highly conserved serine/threonine kinase in the calmodulin signaling pathway. Its activity is upregulated in several cancers, including breast cancer. EEF2K phosphorylates elongation factor EEF2 at a specific site, preventing EEF2 from binding ribosomes and thereby reducing the rate of protein synthesis. Activation can occur through upstream kinases such as AMPK or TRPM7.
