Description:
The SK1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule, a 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as CD8α/β heterodimer or CD8α/α homodimer. CD8a is found on thymocytes, mature T cells, and NK cells. It binds MHC class I and associates with p56lck to participate in T-cell development and activation.

Applications Reported:
Suitable for flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells.
Recommended use: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL. Cell number: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family involved in signal transduction and T cell activation.
CD8 is expressed mainly on T cells as a CD8α/β heterodimer, functioning as a co-receptor for MHC-I molecules. CD8α is essential for MHC-I binding and is also present as CD8α/α homodimers on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells.
Binding of MHC-I/peptide complexes recruits Lck, triggering lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8⁺ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
