Product Specific Information

The eBioH35-17.2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD8 beta molecule. The CD8 beta chain associates with the CD8 alpha chain to form the CD8 alpha/beta heterodimer expressed on most thymocytes and peripheral cytotoxic T cells. CD8 binds to MHC class I and plays a role in T cell development and activation.

Target Information

The CD8B antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes, mediating efficient cell-cell interactions. CD8 acts as a coreceptor with the T-cell receptor to recognize antigens presented by MHC class I molecules. The functional coreceptor can be a homodimer (two alpha chains) or heterodimer (one alpha and one beta chain). Both chains share homology with immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes CD8 beta chain isoforms, with multiple alternatively spliced variants. A pseudogene is also located on chromosome 2.
