Product Specific Information
The OX8 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD8 alpha, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that heterodimerizes with CD8 beta to form the CD8 antigen. CD8 is expressed on CD4+CD8+ thymocytes, MHC class I-restricted peripheral T cells, and some macrophages.
CD8 binds to MHC class I molecules during antigen presentation and participates in T-cell receptor signal transduction via association with kinase Lck.

Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family involved in T cell activation and signal transduction. CD8 is primarily expressed on T cells as disulfide-linked CD8α/CD8β heterodimers and functions as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules.
CD8 also exists as CD8α homodimers on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Interaction with MHC-I/peptide complexes recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs play a key role in pathogen and tumor clearance. Differentiation into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
