Description:
The B-Ly7 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD103, the alpha E integrin. CD103 non-covalently associates with integrin beta 7 and is mainly expressed on intraepithelial lymphocytes and a small subset of peripheral lymphocytes. It is also expressed in hairy cell leukemia (HCL) and some chronic B-cell lymphocytic leukemias. Stimulation of human T cells with mitogens induces upregulation of CD103. E-cadherin binds to CD103 and mediates lymphocyte homing to intestinal epithelium.

Applications Reported:
This antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and validated for flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (defined as 100 µL final volume per sample). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD103 (ITGAE, Integrin alpha E) is expressed on mucosa-associated and activated T lymphocytes, including subsets of TGF-β1 cells. It comprises a 150 kDa alpha chain and a 120 kDa beta chain. CD103 is detected in 0.5–2% of resting lymphocytes in peripheral blood and lymphoid organs. It is part of the integrin family, forming a heterodimer with beta 7 integrin to create the E-cadherin-binding integrin known as human mucosal lymphocyte-1 antigen. CD103 plays roles in adhesion and activation of intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL). Associated diseases include hairy cell leukemia and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
