The Ber-ACT8 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD103 (Integrin αE). CD103 non-covalently associates with integrin β7 and is mainly expressed on intraepithelial lymphocytes and a subset of peripheral lymphocytes. It is also expressed in hairy cell leukemia (HCL) and certain chronic B cell lymphocytic leukemias.
In vitro stimulation of human T cells induces upregulation of CD103. E-cadherin binds to CD103 and mediates lymphocyte homing to intestinal epithelium. Cross-blocking studies suggest antibody clones B-Ly7 and Ber-ACT8 recognize different epitopes.

Applications Tested: Pre-titrated for flow cytometric analysis of stimulated human peripheral blood cells. Use at 5 µL (0.06 µg)/test in 100 µL final volume. Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD103 (ITGAE, Integrin αE) is expressed on mucosa-associated T lymphocytes and activated cells. It consists of a 150 kDa α-chain and a 120 kDa β-chain. CD103 is expressed by 0.5–2% of resting lymphocytes in peripheral blood and lymphoid organs and stains few bone marrow cells.
CD103 belongs to the integrin family—heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of α and β chains. ITGAE encodes an I-domain-containing α integrin that undergoes cleavage in the extracellular domain, forming disulfide-linked heavy and light chains.
Together with β7 integrin, CD103 forms the E-cadherin binding integrin known as human mucosal lymphocyte-1 antigen. It is preferentially expressed in intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) and may serve as an accessory molecule for IEL activation.
Diseases associated with CD103 dysfunction include hairy cell leukemia and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
