Target Information
CRTH2 (GPR44) is a chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells that serves as a receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). It mediates chemotaxis of Th2 cells and eosinophils to PGD2 and plays a key role in allergic responses. Studies in CRTH2-deficient mice indicate that this receptor restricts eosinophilia and modulates allergic inflammation. CRTH2 is a G protein-coupled receptor selectively expressed in Th2 lineage cells and has been detected in the central nervous system, peripheral tissues, and blood cells. Two transcript variants are known, with distinct tissue expression patterns. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the CRTH2 gene have been linked to asthma susceptibility.
