G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular signals (ligand binding) into intracellular signals via G protein activation. This signaling mechanism is evolutionarily conserved among eukaryotes and is essential for sensing environmental stimuli and mediating cell-cell communication.

All GPRs have seven membrane-spanning domains, and their extracellular regions are often glycosylated. These loops contain two conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds to stabilize the receptor structure.

GPR103 (QRFPR) is a 455-amino-acid protein highly expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, it is found in the heart, kidney, and testis. GPR103 may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
