Target Information
The ST6GAL1 gene encodes a type II membrane protein that catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to galactose-containing substrates. This protein, normally located in the Golgi, can be processed into a soluble form and participates in generating cell-surface carbohydrate determinants and differentiation antigens HB-6, CDw75, and CD76. It belongs to glycosyltransferase family 29, and three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified.
