Target Information

The CD3 subunit complex is crucial in transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating the surface expression of the TCR complex.
T cell activation involves the CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits, which belong to the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded by genes on chromosome 11.
These subunits have long cytoplasmic tails that interact with signal transduction molecules via double tyrosine-based motifs.
CD3 plays roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation.
The CD3 antigen is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but not on B or NK cells.
Defects in the CD3 gene can lead to CD3 immunodeficiency.
